CANOPY COVERING THE GRANDSTAND

OLIVE TREES STADIUM - ANDRIA (BT)

The project at the "Degli Ulivi" Stadium in Andria involved the construction of the grandstand roof using a massive metal structure based on a balance beam system. This unique structural solution involves the use of large cantilevered main beams, supported by sturdy vertical pillars that act as a fulcrum. The system's balance is ensured by rear tie rods anchored to the ground, which balance the weight of the roof extending toward the pitch, eliminating the need for front supports and thus ensuring maximum visibility for spectators.

The photographic details highlight the complexity of the structural joints, where large-diameter tubular profiles are connected via shaped steel plates and high-strength bolts. The secondary structure, consisting of purlins and cross-beams, defines the installation surface for the corrugated sheet metal or roofing panels. The hot-dip galvanizing finish and subsequent protective coating ensure high corrosion resistance, essential for a structure constantly exposed to the elements. This engineering approach transforms the stadium roof into a lightweight yet extremely rigid architectural element, capable of spanning large spans with a modern and functional visual impact.
