STRUCTURAL ADAPTATIONS

SANTA GIUSTINA SCHOOL - RIMINI (RN)

The structural renovation project at the Santa Giustina school in Rimini stands out for its use of advanced metalwork solutions, significantly increasing the seismic safety of the existing building. The images clearly show the installation of imposing external frames and galvanized steel X-braces, designed to absorb horizontal stresses and stiffen the original masonry or reinforced concrete structure.

On the exterior, large white tubular profiles act as an exoskeleton, anchored firmly to the ground via new foundations and connected to the façade to limit its movement. Inside, the project includes the insertion of HEA or IPE profile frames that frame the existing walls, complemented by St. Andrew's crosses with bolted joints on steel plates. In addition to the structural reinforcement, a new external emergency staircase made of lightweight metalwork is visible, equipped with standard-compliant railings and non-slip steps, ensuring safe escape routes. This structural reskinning approach makes the school complex safe while minimizing its impact on the internal teaching spaces and ensuring excellent durability thanks to the steel's surface treatments.
